Some bands jump out of the box, with their first album being the best thing they will ever do, though in the case of Luna, they don’t jump, and it took the album “Penthouse” for them to create their own “Sgt. Pepper.” Dean sights the two previous releases as being /5(55).

 · Penthouse isn't as entrancing as Bewitched, since Dean Wareham is suffering a slight songwriting slump, yet the group's lush, droning guitars remain enchanting, and they're effectively fleshed out by primitive keyboards and strings. None of the songs are that dissimilar from each other, yet the washes of airy melodies and guitars make Penthouse quite listenable.

  1.  · Penthouse is an album that stands off to the side, it stands oddly out of time, out of step, yet is entirely inviting, a slender postmodern musical-noir filled with post war Americana connections, defined and created by the equally inspired persona of Dean Wareham, a star-crossed loser, the archetypical pulp fiction anti-hero, Peter Gunn and Philip Marlowe rolled into one classless character .
